Take away

Mainly composed of plastic, seven major trash island, among them the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, are growing at a rapid pace. On November 14th 2013, the Greek government published its decision to put shores of islands on the market for sale.
These two apparently independent facts concur with one observation, mankind’s compulsion of possession. Open to many interpretations and other associations, this video-performance addresses issues of ownership and of our attitude towards our environment.
A consideration of the concept of the container as receptacle of identity is central. The shell as container contains its own container, the plastic bag, which becomes its own limit. It reduces itself, this way, to an observed object, to passivity: by containing its own ending, it condemns any potentiality for further transformation and relies on the other to decide for the moment of its own end. The other becomes the active subject and has full liberty of acting upon it.
